Speakman-Shapiro Residence - Tucson, Arizona (2006-2007)

 

The Speakman & Shapiro adobe houses, located on eight acres of desert between two major washes west of the Tucson Mountains, create an extended family compound.  Both houses have mud-adobe bearing walls, exposed at both the interior and exterior, as well as favorable southern exposure for passive solar gain. The two houses are placed in an L-shape relative to one other, defining a shared courtyard to the north. This beautiful plant-filled patio space opens to views of the Tucson mountains to the north and east.
