VINT & ASSOCIATES is a Tucson, AZ based alternative practice architectural firm with a range of experience including community design, historic preservation, environmental/alternative materials, and public art.

MARCELLUS RUSK, Project Manager (B.Arch., UA, 2002). Marcellus joined the office in April 2007, and has become a trusted and capable Associate and Project Manager. Before architecture, he studied art history and anthropology and later spent two years in the graduate landscape architecture program at the U of A. He is a Texan.

 

RACHEL SERRA, R.A. 2017 (B.Arch., UA, 2011). Well organized and accomplished designer, Rachel is a registered architect. She is detail oriented and consistently strives for a level of excellence in her work whether it be traditional orthographic drawing or 3d modeling both physical and digital.  A native Arizonan, Rachel began working with the office in July 2011.

 

KAREN COSTELLO, A.I.T. (MLA, UA, 2014; B.Arch., UA, 2012; LEED AP 2010).  Prior to joining Vint & Associates Karen spent two years at MCS Architects concentrating on commercial architectural design and construction.  Karen joined the office in June 2016 and enjoys working on all types of projects, 3D visualization and graphic rendering.  She’s brilliant.

BRAD MASCAL, A.I.T. (M.Arch., Kansas State University, 2010; LEED AP BD+C).  Brad most recently practiced architecture in San Francisco, joining our firm after completing his thru-hiking journey along the Pacific Crest Trail. Though native to the Midwest, Brad has immersed himself in the southern Arizona community through his involvement in local organizations focused on sustainable water management practices and natural building techniques. Brad is spatially inclined and creates designs that are sensitive to the surrounding environment.

 

JANE MARTIN, our part-time Administrative Assistant, has earned two degrees from the University of Arizona: the Bachelor of English Literature (1980, cum laude) and the Master of Education (1992, cum laude/ Phi Beta Kappa).

Principal architect BOB VINT is a native Tucsonan who has practiced as a licesenced architect in Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and Massachusetts. He recieved a Bachelor of Architecture with High Distinction from the University of Arizona in 1982.  After working with various architectual firms in Boston and Tucson, he established an independent practice in 1993.

 

Bob serves as preservation architect for the Mission San Xavier del Bac in Pima County, the most significant historic building in Arizona (dating to 1783, built of low-fire clay brick with lime mortar), as well as for the pre-historic Native American Cliff Dwellings of the Sierra Ancha in the Tonto National Forest (dating to 1290, built of stone with mud mortar - a preservation study carried out for the U.S. Forest Service.)  Additional projects of note include design of the San Xavier Franciscan Friary and Mission School, Linda Ronstadts's Tucson residence, the main entrance of the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum, the mixed use Plaza San Agustin in downtown Tucson, and the St. Michael's Campus Master Plan, Classrooms and Student Center.

Vint is author of a book on affordable housing in the Southwest published in 2005 by the department of Housing & Urban Development, Southwest Housing Traditions: Design, Materials, Performance. Since 2011, Vint has taught at the University of Arizona's College of Architecture, Planning & Landscape Architecture as a member  of the adjunct facultyHis courses at the U of A include the History & Theory of Urban Design, Arid Region Urbanism (featuring field trips throughout the Southwest) and an interdisciplinary downtown design studio.  Read his full resume here.
